Ćevapi
Ćevapi are traditional Balkan sausages made from a mixture of ground beef and lamb, seasoned with various herbs and spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Onions - 1 small, thinly sliced (for garnish)
- Ajvar (red pepper relish) - For serving
- Flatbread - 4 pieces
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Baking soda - 1/2 teaspoon
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Paprika - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1 small, finely chopped
- Ground lamb - 250 grams
- Ground beef - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, ground lamb, chopped onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, black pepper, and baking soda. Mix well until all the ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 1 hour to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.
- Divide the meat mixture into small portions and shape them into elongated sausage-like shapes, about 2-3 inches long.
- Brush the grill or grill pan with vegetable oil to prevent sticking.
- Grill the Ćevapi for about 5-6 minutes per side, or until they are nicely browned and cooked through.
- While the Ćevapi are grilling, warm the flatbread on the grill for a few seconds on each side.
- Serve the grilled Ćevapi on the warm flatbread, topped with ajvar and thinly sliced onions.
