Yakitori
Yakitori is a popular Japanese dish made from skewered chicken grilled to perfection. It's typically served with a side of soy sauce for dipping.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Bamboo skewers - 8
- Green onions - 4, cut into 1-inch pieces
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Chicken thighs - 8, boneless and skinless
Let's Get Started
- Soak the bamboo skewers in water for at least 30 minutes to prevent them from burning.
- In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the sauce has thickened, about 10 minutes.
- Cut the chicken thighs into 1-inch pieces and thread onto the skewers, alternating with pieces of green onion.
- Preheat a grill or grill pan to medium-high heat.
- Grill the skewers, turning occasionally, until the chicken is cooked through and the onions are tender, about 10-15 minutes.
- Brush the skewers with the sauce and grill for an additional 1-2 minutes on each side.
- Serve the yakitori with the remaining sauce on the side for dipping.
