Waterblommetjie Bredie
Waterblommetjie Bredie is a traditional South African stew made with lamb and waterblommetjies, a type of water lily. It's a hearty and comforting dish, perfect for cold winter nights.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Bay leaves - 2
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Chicken stock - 2 cups
- White wine - 1 cup
- Potatoes - 4, peeled and cubed
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onions - 2, chopped
- Waterblommetjies - 500g, cleaned
- Lamb - 1 kg, cut into chunks
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, brown the lamb in batches. Remove and set aside.
- In the same pot, sauté the onions and garlic until soft.
- Return the lamb to the pot and add the potatoes, wine, chicken stock, salt, pepper, and bay leaves.
- Cover and simmer for 1 hour.
- Add the waterblommetjies to the pot and simmer for another hour, or until the lamb is tender and the waterblommetjies are soft.
- Adjust the seasoning if necessary and serve hot.
