Ingredients - Serves 6

Let's Get Started

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add the beef and brown on all sides, then remove from the pot and set aside.
  3. In the same pot, add the shallots and cook until they start to soften.
  4. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  5. Return the beef to the pot, add the red wine, and bring to a simmer.
  6. Stir in the tomato paste, cinnamon stick, allspice berries, bay leaves, salt, and pepper.
  7. Cover the pot and simmer for about 3 hours, until the beef is tender and the flavors are well combined.
  8. Serve the stifado hot, with bread or rice on the side.
