Vermont Maple Baked Beans
A traditional New England recipe, these baked beans are sweetened with pure Vermont maple syrup and slow-cooked to perfection.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Water - 4 cups
- Bacon - 4 slices, chopped
- Pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Mustard - 1 tablespoon, dry
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Maple syrup - 1 cup, pure
- Navy beans - 2 cups, dried
Let's Get Started
- Soak the beans overnight in plenty of water.
- Preheat your oven to 300°F.
- Drain the beans and place them in a large oven-safe pot.
- Add the maple syrup, onion, mustard, salt, pepper, and bacon to the pot.
- Pour in enough water to cover the beans by about an inch.
- Cover the pot and place it in the oven.
- Bake for 6 hours, or until the beans are tender and the sauce is thick and syrupy.
- Stir the beans every hour, adding more water if necessary.
- Serve the beans hot, with a drizzle of extra maple syrup if desired.
