Unagi Donburi
This Japanese dish features grilled eel served over rice with a sweet and savory sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Nori - 1 sheet, cut into thin strips
- Scallions - 2, thinly sliced
- Rice - 2 cups, cooked
- Sake - 2 tablespoons
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Mirin - 1/4 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/4 cup
- Unagi (freshwater eel) - 2 fillets
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the broiler to high.
- In a small saucepan, combine the soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the sauce has thickened.
- Rinse the unagi fillets under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Place the unagi fillets on a broiler pan and brush with the sauce.
- Broil for 5-7 minutes, or until the unagi is browned and crispy on top.
- Divide the rice among four bowls and top with the unagi fillets.
- Drizzle with the remaining sauce and sprinkle with scallions and nori strips.
