Gyudon
Gyudon, also known as Beef Bowl, is a popular quick meal in Japan. It consists of a bowl of steamed rice topped with thinly sliced beef and onions, simmered in a sweet and savory soy sauce based sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Pickled red ginger - For garnish
- Scallions - 4, chopped
- Steamed rice - 4 bowls
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Sake - 1/3 cup
- Mirin - 1/3 cup
- Soy sauce - 1/3 cup
- Onions - 2, thinly sliced
- Thinly sliced beef - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large frying pan, add the onions, soy sauce, mirin, sake, and sugar. Bring to a boil over medium heat.
- Add the beef to the pan and cook until it's no longer pink.
- Lower the heat and simmer for a few minutes until the beef is cooked through.
- Serve the beef and sauce over steamed rice.
- Garnish with chopped scallions and pickled red ginger.
