Tsukune
Tsukune is a popular Japanese dish made with flavorful chicken meatballs glazed with a sweet and savory sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Skewers - 8
- Black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Egg - 1
- Breadcrumbs - 1/4 cup
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Sake - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Ginger - 1 teaspoon, grated
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Ground chicken - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground chicken, green onions, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, sake, mirin, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and black pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
- Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a ball.
- Thread each meatball onto a skewer.
- Preheat the grill or grill pan over medium heat.
- Grill the tsukune for about 6-8 minutes, turning occasionally, until cooked through and nicely browned.
- While the tsukune is grilling, prepare the glaze by combining soy sauce, mirin, and sugar in a small saucepan. Cook over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved and the sauce thickens slightly.
- Brush the glaze onto the cooked tsukune, turning them to coat evenly.
- Grill for an additional 1-2 minutes, until the glaze caramelizes and forms a shiny coating.
- Serve the tsukune hot, garnished with sesame seeds and additional green onions if desired.
