Tourtière is a classic French-Canadian dish that is enjoyed throughout Canada, especially during the Christmas holiday season. This hearty meat pie is filled with ground pork, beef, and a wonderful blend of spices.

Ingredients - Serves 8

Let's Get Started

  1. In a large skillet, cook the pork and beef over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain off any fat.
  2. Add the onion, garlic, salt, pepper, cloves, nutmeg, and cinnamon to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes, or until the onion is soft.
  3. Add the water and breadcrumbs to the skillet. Stir well and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  5. Line a 9-inch pie plate with one of the pie crusts. Spoon the meat mixture into the crust.
  6. Cover with the second pie crust and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Brush the top crust with the beaten egg.
  8. Bake for 45 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown. Let the pie cool for a few minutes before serving.
