Tofu Katsu
Crispy breaded tofu cutlets, a vegetarian twist on the classic Japanese dish.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Tonkatsu sauce - For serving
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Panko breadcrumbs - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2, beaten
- Flour - 1/2 cup
- Pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Firm tofu - 1 block
Let's Get Started
- Drain the tofu and press it to remove excess moisture. Cut it into 1-inch thick slices.
- Season the tofu slices with salt and pepper.
- Dredge each slice in flour, then dip in the beaten eggs, and finally coat in panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat. Fry the tofu slices until they are golden brown on both sides, about 3-4 minutes per side.
- Drain the tofu katsu on paper towels to remove excess oil.
- Serve the tofu katsu with tonkatsu sauce.
