Thit Kho Tau
Thit Kho Tau is a traditional Vietnamese dish made with caramelized pork belly and hard-boiled eggs, simmered in a flavorful sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Green onions - 2, chopped (for garnish)
- Black pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Coconut water - 1 cup
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Fish sauce - 3 tablespoons
- Shallots - 2, thinly sliced
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Hard-boiled eggs - 4
- Pork belly - 1.5 pounds, cut into bite-sized pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, heat some oil over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic and sliced shallots, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the pork belly pieces and cook until browned on all sides.
- Add the fish sauce, sugar, and black pepper to the pot, and stir well to coat the pork belly.
- Pour in the coconut water and water, and bring the mixture to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the pork belly is tender and the sauce has thickened.
- Add the hard-boiled eggs to the pot, and simmer for an additional 10 minutes to allow the eggs to absorb the flavors.
- Serve the Thit Kho Tau hot, garnished with chopped green onions.
