Tazukuri
Tazukuri is a traditional Japanese dish often served as part of Osechi Ryori during New Year's celebrations. It consists of dried baby sardines coated in a sweet soy glaze.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Sake - 1 tablespoon
- Mirin - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Dried baby sardines - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Toast the dried sardines in a pan over medium heat until they become slightly golden and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, combine the soy sauce, sugar, mirin, and sake. Stir until the sugar is fully dissolved.
- Add the toasted sardines back into the pan and stir to coat them in the sauce. Continue cooking until the sauce has thickened and the sardines are well coated.
- Remove from heat and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Allow to cool before serving.
