California Sushi Roll Bowl
This deconstructed California sushi roll is served in a bowl for a fun and easy spin on sushi night.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Pickled ginger - For serving
- Wasabi - For serving
- Soy sauce - For serving
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Nori (seaweed) - 2 sheets, cut into strips
- Avocado - 1, sliced
- Cucumber - 1, thinly sliced
- Imitation crab - 1 cup, shredded
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 tablespoon
- Rice vinegar - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 2 cups
- Sushi rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the sushi rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Combine the rice and water in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 20 minutes.
- While the rice is cooking, combine the rice vinegar, sugar, and salt in a small saucepan. Heat over medium heat until the sugar and salt are dissolved. Remove from heat.
- When the rice is done, stir in the vinegar mixture. Let the rice cool to room temperature.
- Divide the rice among four bowls. Top each bowl with equal amounts of the crab, cucumber, avocado, and nori.
- Sprinkle each bowl with sesame seeds and serve with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger on the side.
