Taro Ball Dessert
A popular Taiwanese dessert made from taro root, sweet potato, and glutinous rice flour, served in a sweet syrup.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Brown sugar - 1 cup
- Water - 1 cup
- Glutinous rice flour - 2 cups
- Sweet potato - 1 cup, peeled and diced
- Taro root - 1 cup, peeled and diced
Let's Get Started
- Steam the taro and sweet potato until soft, about 15 minutes.
- Mash the taro and sweet potato separately, then mix each with 1 cup of the glutinous rice flour and 1/2 cup of water to form a dough.
- Roll the dough into small balls and set aside.
- Bring a large pot of water to a boil, then add the taro and sweet potato balls. Cook until they float to the surface, then continue to cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- In a separate pot, dissolve the brown sugar in 2 cups of water to create a syrup.
- Drain the cooked taro and sweet potato balls and add them to the syrup.
- Serve the taro ball dessert hot or cold.
