Sukiyaki
Sukiyaki is a popular Japanese hot pot dish which is often cooked and served at the table, similar to Shabu Shabu. It consists of thinly sliced beef, tofu, and vegetables cooked in a sweet soy sauce broth.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Water - 2 cups
- Sake - 1/4 cup
- Sugar - 3 tablespoons
- Soy sauce - 1/2 cup
- Udon noodles - 2 packages
- Green onions - 4, cut into 2-inch lengths
- Shiitake mushrooms - 8, stems removed
- Napa cabbage - 1/2 head, chopped
- Firm tofu - 1 block, cut into cubes
- Thinly sliced beef - 400 grams
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, combine the soy sauce, sugar, sake, and water. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
- Add the beef to the pot and cook until browned, about 5 minutes.
- Add the tofu, cabbage, mushrooms, and green onions to the pot. Cover and simmer until the vegetables are tender, about 10 minutes.
- In a separate pot, cook the udon noodles according to the package instructions. Drain and set aside.
- Serve the sukiyaki with the cooked udon noodles.
