Stir Fried Rice Cakes
This is a traditional Chinese dish, often enjoyed during the Lunar New Year for good luck. The chewy rice cakes are stir-fried with vegetables and a savory sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- White pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Carrots - 1/2 cup, julienned
- Napa cabbage - 1 cup, chopped
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Rice cakes - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Soak the rice cakes in warm water for 15 minutes, then drain.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a wok or large frying pan over medium heat.
- Add the garlic and green onions and stir-fry for 1 minute.
- Add the napa cabbage and carrots and stir-fry for 2 minutes.
- Add the rice cakes, soy sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, and white pepper.
- Stir-fry for 5-7 minutes, or until the rice cakes are soft and chewy.
- Serve hot, garnished with additional green onions if desired.
