Lo Bak Go
Lo Bak Go, or radish cake, is a traditional Chinese dish often served at dim sum. It's made from grated radish, rice flour, and various flavorings, then steamed and pan-fried until crispy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Vegetable oil - For pan-frying
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- White pepper - 1/2 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Green onions - 2, chopped
- Dried shiitake mushrooms - 4, soaked and chopped
- Dried shrimp - 1/4 cup, soaked and chopped
- Chinese sausage - 2, diced
- Water - 1 cup
- Rice flour - 1 cup
- Daikon radish - 2 cups, grated
Let's Get Started
- Combine the grated radish and water in a large bowl. Add the rice flour and stir until well combined.
- Heat a pan over medium heat. Add the Chinese sausage, dried shrimp, and shiitake mushrooms. Cook until the sausage is browned.
- Add the radish mixture to the pan. Cook, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens.
- Pour the mixture into a greased cake pan. Steam for 1 hour, or until the radish cake is set.
- Let the radish cake cool completely, then cut into slices.
- Heat some vegetable oil in a pan over medium heat. Pan-fry the radish cake slices until golden brown on both sides.
- Drizzle with sesame oil and sprinkle with chopped green onions before serving.
