Siu Mai
Siu Mai is a traditional Chinese dumpling usually filled with pork. They are a staple in dim sum and are deliciously easy to make at home.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Wonton wrappers - 40 pieces
- Green onions - 2, finely chopped
- Egg - 1, beaten
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Shrimp - 1/2 pound, finely chopped
- Ground pork - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground pork, chopped shrimp, soy sauce, sesame oil, oyster sauce, sugar, cornstarch, beaten egg, and chopped green onions.
- Place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of a wonton wrapper. Gather up the edges of the wrapper and gently fold it so that it forms a basket shape around the filling. Leave the top of the filling exposed.
- Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.
- Place the dumplings in a steamer basket and steam over boiling water for about 15 minutes, or until the pork is cooked through.
- Serve the dumplings hot, with soy sauce for dipping.
