Saqima
Saqima is a popular Chinese sweet snack. It's made from fried dough strips that are bound together with a sweet syrup and formed into a square or rectangular shape.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Honey - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Water - 1/2 cup
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Eggs - 2
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, mix the flour and eggs until a dough forms.
- On a floured surface, roll the dough into a thin sheet and cut into thin strips.
- Heat the oil in a deep fryer or large saucepan to 375°F (190°C).
- Fry the dough strips, a few at a time, until golden brown. Drain on paper towels.
- In a saucepan, combine the sugar, water, and honey. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the syrup thickens.
- Add the fried dough strips to the syrup and stir until all the strips are coated.
- Sprinkle with sesame seeds and press the mixture into a square or rectangular shape.
- Let cool, then cut into squares or rectangles to serve.
