Sambhar Vada
Sambhar Vada is a popular South Indian dish. It consists of lentil dumplings soaked in a flavorful and tangy sambhar.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - For deep frying
- Salt - To taste
- Red chili powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Asafoetida - 1/4 teaspoon
- Curry leaves - 10-12
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Tamarind - 1 small ball
- Rice - 1/4 cup
- Toor dal - 1/2 cup
- Urad dal - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Soak urad dal and rice for 4-5 hours. Drain the water and grind to a smooth paste.
- Heat oil in a pan for deep frying. Make small balls of the batter and deep fry until golden brown. These are the vadas.
- Soak tamarind in water and extract its juice.
- Cook toor dal in a pressure cooker until soft.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, curry leaves, asafoetida, turmeric powder, and red chili powder.
- Add tamarind extract, cooked dal, and salt. Let it boil for 10-15 minutes. This is the sambhar.
- Soak the fried vadas in the sambhar for 10-15 minutes before serving.
