Sambal Petai
Sambal Petai is a spicy Indonesian dish made with stink beans (petai), chili paste, and various spices.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cooking oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - To taste
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Fish sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Lime juice - 2 tablespoons
- Tomato - 1, diced
- Garlic - 4 cloves, minced
- Shallots - 4, finely chopped
- Red chili peppers - 5, sliced
- Shrimp - 200 grams, peeled and deveined
- Stink beans (petai) - 200 grams
Let's Get Started
- Heat the cooking oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the shallots and garlic, and sauté until fragrant.
- Add the shrimp and cook until they turn pink and are cooked through.
- Add the sliced chili peppers and stir-fry for a minute.
- Add the stink beans (petai) and diced tomato, and continue to stir-fry for another 2-3 minutes.
- In a small bowl, mix together lime juice, fish sauce, sugar, and salt.
- Pour the sauce mixture into the pan and stir well to coat the ingredients.
- Cook for another 2-3 minutes, or until the sauce thickens slightly.
- Remove from heat and serve hot with steamed rice.
