This Salisbury steak recipe is a classic comfort food made with lean ground beef and flavored with onions, garlic, and a rich mushroom gravy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Cornstarch - 1 tablespoon
- Worcestershire sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Beef broth - 1 cup
- Mushrooms - 1 cup, sliced
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Egg - 1
- Bread crumbs - 1/2 cup
- Ground beef - 1 pound
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, egg, onion, garlic, salt, and pepper. Shape into 4 oval patties.
- Heat the butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the patties and cook until browned on both sides, about 5 minutes per side. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the mushrooms and cook until browned, about 5 minutes. Remove the mushrooms from the skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with a little water to make a slurry. Stir the slurry into the skillet and cook until the sauce has thickened, about 5 minutes.
- Return the patties and mushrooms to the skillet and simmer in the sauce for 10 minutes, or until the patties are cooked through.
- Serve the Salisbury steaks with the mushroom gravy.
