Poutine with Italian Beef Gravy
A delicious twist on the classic Canadian dish, this poutine is topped with a rich Italian beef gravy.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Water - 2 tablespoons
- Cornstarch - 2 tablespoons
- Beef broth - 4 cups
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Italian seasoning - 1 tablespoon
- Beef roast - 1 pound
- Cheese curds - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Potatoes - 4 large, cut into fries
Let's Get Started
- Season the beef roast with the Italian seasoning, garlic, salt, and pepper, then place in a slow cooker with the beef broth. Cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours.
- Once the beef is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it. Set aside.
- Strain the broth from the slow cooker into a saucepan. Bring to a simmer.
- Mix the cornstarch and water together to make a slurry, then whisk it into the simmering broth. Continue to simmer until the gravy has thickened.
- Fry the potatoes in the vegetable oil until golden and crispy. Drain on paper towels and season with salt.
- To assemble the poutine, place a layer of fries in a dish, top with cheese curds and shredded beef, then pour over the gravy. Repeat with another layer of fries, cheese curds, beef, and gravy. Serve hot.
