Rhode Island Style Pizza Strips
A popular snack in Rhode Island, these pizza strips are made with a thick, fluffy crust and a tangy tomato sauce. They're perfect for parties, picnics, or a quick lunch.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Dried basil - 1 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic powder - 1 teaspoon
- Canned tomato sauce - 1 can (15 ounces)
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- All-purpose flour - 3 cups
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 1 packet
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let sit for 5 minutes, or until the mixture is frothy.
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the yeast mixture and olive oil. Stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a towel, and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F. Grease a baking sheet with olive oil.
- Punch down the dough and turn it out onto the prepared baking sheet. Press the dough out into a rectangle, about 1/2 inch thick.
- In a small bowl, combine the tomato sauce, garlic powder, oregano, and basil. Spread the sauce evenly over the dough.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the sauce is bubbling. Let cool slightly, then cut into strips and serve.
