  1. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper to make a spice rub.
  2. Rub the spice mixture all over the pork shoulder, covering it completely.
  3. Place the pork shoulder in a slow cooker and pour the barbecue sauce over it.
  4. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for 8 hours, or until the pork is tender and easily shreds with a fork.
  5. Once the pork is cooked, remove it from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks.
  6. Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and mix it with the remaining barbecue sauce.
  7. Cover the slow cooker and cook on low heat for an additional 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
