Poori
Poori is a popular Indian deep-fried bread that puffs up into a round ball. It's typically served with a side of curry or chutney.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Oil - For deep frying
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 3/4 cup
- Whole wheat flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Gradually add water to the flour mixture, kneading the dough until it is firm and smooth.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 15 minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls, about the size of a golf ball.
- Roll out each ball into a thin circle using a rolling pin.
- Heat the oil in a deep frying pan over medium heat.
- Carefully slide one poori into the hot oil. It should sizzle and rise to the surface.
- Fry the poori until it puffs up and turns golden brown, about 1-2 minutes. Flip it over and fry the other side.
- Remove the poori with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.
- Repeat with the remaining dough balls.
- Serve the pooris hot with your choice of curry or chutney.
