Plokkfiskur
Plokkfiskur is a traditional Icelandic dish made with fish, potatoes, and béchamel sauce.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Fresh parsley - 2 tablespoons, chopped
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Milk - 2 cups
- All-purpose flour - 4 tablespoons
- Butter - 4 tablespoons
- Onion - 1 medium, finely chopped
- Potatoes - 1 lb, peeled and diced
- White fish fillets - 1 lb
Let's Get Started
- In a large pot, bring salted water to a boil. Add the diced potatoes and cook until tender, about 10 minutes. Drain and set aside.
- In a separate pot, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
- Add the flour to the pot and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, ensuring there are no lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, about 5 minutes.
- Add the cooked potatoes to the sauce and gently mix to combine.
- Season the fish fillets with salt and pepper, then place them on top of the potato mixture in the pot.
- Cover the pot and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until the fish is cooked through and flakes easily with a fork.
- Gently break up the fish into smaller pieces and mix it into the potato mixture.
- Serve hot, garnished with fresh parsley.
