Pita Gyros
A delicious Greek sandwich filled with grilled meat, tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, and onions, all wrapped in a soft pita bread.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Tzatziki sauce - 1 cup
- Onions - 1, thinly sliced
- Tomatoes - 2, sliced
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon juice - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Lamb or chicken - 1 pound, thinly sliced
- Pita bread - 4 pieces
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine the olive oil, garlic, lemon juice, oregano, salt, and pepper. Add the meat and marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the meat and cook until it is browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
- Warm the pita bread in the oven or on the grill for a few seconds until it is soft and pliable.
- Spread a generous amount of tzatziki sauce on each pita. Top with the cooked meat, sliced tomatoes, and onions.
- Fold the pita over the fillings, and your gyros are ready to serve.
