Gyros
A traditional Greek dish made with marinated meat, fresh vegetables, and tzatziki sauce, all wrapped up in a soft pita bread.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Tzatziki sauce - 1 cup
- Red onion - 1, thinly sliced
- Cucumbers - 1, sliced
- Tomatoes - 2, sliced
- Pita bread - 4 pieces
- Salt and pepper - To taste
- Oregano - 1 teaspoon
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Lemon juice - 2 tablespoons
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Boneless pork shoulder - 1 pound, thinly sliced
Let's Get Started
- In a bowl, combine the pork, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic, oregano, salt, and pepper. Let it marinate for at least 1 hour.
- Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Add the pork and cook until it's browned and cooked through, about 5 minutes per side.
- Warm the pita bread in the oven or on the grill for a few seconds until it's soft and pliable.
- To assemble the gyros, spread a spoonful of tzatziki sauce on each pita. Add the pork, tomatoes, cucumbers, and red onion. Fold the pita over the fillings, and your gyro is ready to serve.
