  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the diced ham until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, sauté the onion, garlic, and green bell pepper until softened.
  4. Add the cooked pinto beans, tomato sauce, chicken broth, chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Stir well to combine.
  5. Transfer the bean mixture to a greased casserole dish.
  6. In a separate bowl, prepare the cornbread mix according to package instructions, using the milk and egg.
  7. Pour the cornbread batter over the bean mixture in the casserole dish.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top of the cornbread batter.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the cornbread is golden brown and cooked through.
  10. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
