Pignoccata
Pignoccata is a traditional Sicilian dessert made from fried dough balls coated in a sweet syrup.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Lemon zest - 1 teaspoon
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Honey - 1/2 cup
- White wine - 1/2 cup
- Butter - 2 tablespoons
- Eggs - 2
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, eggs, butter, and wine. Mix until a dough forms.
- Roll the dough into small balls, about the size of a marble.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Fry the dough balls until they are golden brown, about 5 minutes.
- In a separate pot, combine the honey, lemon zest, and cinnamon. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add the fried dough balls to the honey syrup and stir until they are well coated.
- Remove the pignoccata from the heat and let it cool before serving.
