Philly Roast Pork Sandwich
This Philly Roast Pork Sandwich is a delicious and flavorful sandwich filled with tender roast pork, sautéed onions, and melted provolone cheese.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Italian rolls - 4
- Provolone cheese - 4 slices
- Onion - 1 large, thinly sliced
- Olive oil - 2 tablespoons
- Black pepper - 1 teaspoon
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Dried oregano - 1 tablespoon
- Garlic powder - 1 tablespoon
- Pork shoulder - 2 pounds
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the oven to 325°F.
- In a small bowl, mix together the garlic powder, dried oregano, salt, and black pepper.
- Rub the pork shoulder with the spice mixture, making sure to coat it evenly.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
- Sear the pork shoulder on all sides until browned, about 5 minutes per side.
- Transfer the pork shoulder to a roasting pan and roast in the preheated oven for about 3 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 145°F.
- Remove the pork shoulder from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before slicing.
- While the pork is resting, heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
- Add the sliced onions and sauté until caramelized, about 10 minutes.
- Slice the Italian rolls in half and place a slice of provolone cheese on the bottom half of each roll.
- Top with slices of roast pork and sautéed onions.
- Place the sandwiches under the broiler for a few minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
