Let's Get Started

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the coffee and half of the sugar. Bring to a simmer over medium heat.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks and the remaining sugar until well combined.
  3. Slowly pour the hot coffee mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly.
  4. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly.
  5. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
  6. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and vanilla extract until soft peaks form.
  7. Fold the whipped cream into the cooled coffee mixture until well combined.
  8. Pour the mixture into a loaf pan and freeze for at least 3 hours, or until firm.
  9. To serve, slice the semifreddo and garnish with dark chocolate shavings.
