Eggnog
A classic holiday beverage, this creamy eggnog is made with egg yolks, sugar, milk, cream, nutmeg, and a splash of bourbon.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Vanilla extract - 1 teaspoon
- Bourbon - 1/4 cup (optional)
- Nutmeg - 1/2 teaspoon
- Heavy cream - 1 cup
- Milk - 2 cups
- Sugar - 1/2 cup
- Egg yolks - 6
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved.
- In a medium saucepan, over high heat, combine the milk, heavy cream and nutmeg and bring just to a boil, stirring occasionally. Remove from the heat and gradually temper the hot mixture into the egg and sugar mixture.
- Return everything to the pot and cook until the mixture reaches 160 degrees F. Remove from the heat, stir in the bourbon and vanilla extract.
- Pour the eggnog into a pitcher or other container and cover. Refrigerate until chilled, at least an hour or two before serving.
