Onion and Apple Chutney
This sweet and tangy chutney is a perfect accompaniment to cheese and crackers or roast meats. The combination of apples and onions gives it a unique flavor.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground ginger - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground cinnamon - 1/2 teaspoon
- Raisins - 1/2 cup
- Apple cider vinegar - 1 cup
- Brown sugar - 1 cup
- Apples - 4, peeled, cored and chopped
- Onions - 2 large, finely chopped
Let's Get Started
- In a large saucepan, combine the onions, apples, brown sugar, vinegar, raisins, cinnamon, ginger, and salt.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to low and simmer, uncovered, for about 1 hour, or until the chutney is thick and the apples are tender.
- Stir the chutney occasionally as it cooks to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the pan.
- Once the chutney is done, let it cool before transferring it to jars. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
