Hoddeok
Hoddeok is a popular Korean street food. It's a sweet pancake filled with brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Chopped walnuts or peanuts - 1/2 cup
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- White sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, yeast, salt, and vegetable oil. Let it sit for 10 minutes.
- Add the flour to the yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let it rise for 1 to 2 hours.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped nuts.
- After the dough has risen, divide it into 8 equal pieces. Flatten each piece and place a spoonful of the sugar mixture in the center. Seal the dough around the filling and flatten it into a pancake shape.
- Heat a pan over medium heat and add a little oil. Cook the pancakes for 2 to 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown and the sugar filling has melted.
- Serve the hoddeok hot, being careful of the hot sugar filling.
