Hotteok
Hotteok is a popular Korean street food. It's a sweet pancake filled with a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts.
Ingredients - Serves 8
- Chopped walnuts - 1/2 cup
- Ground cinnamon - 1 teaspoon
- Brown sugar - 1/2 cup
- Vegetable oil - 2 tablespoons
- All-purpose flour - 2 cups
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Active dry yeast - 2 teaspoons
- White sugar - 2 tablespoons
- Warm water - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, yeast, salt, and half of the flour. Stir until well mixed.
- Cover the bowl with a towel and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
- After 1 hour, add the remaining flour and mix well. Let it rest for another 10 minutes.
- In a separate bowl, mix together the brown sugar, cinnamon, and chopped walnuts.
- Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces. Flatten each piece and place a spoonful of the sugar mixture in the center. Fold the dough over to seal the sugar mixture inside.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a skillet over medium heat. Place the pancakes in the skillet and cook until golden brown on both sides, about 5 minutes per side.
- Serve the pancakes warm.
