Num Plae Ai
Num Plae Ai is a traditional Cambodian dessert made with sticky rice, coconut milk, and bananas.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Sesame seeds - 2 tablespoons
- Water - 1 cup
- Pandan leaves - 2 leaves
- Salt - 1/4 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1/4 cup
- Bananas - 4 ripe, sliced
- Coconut milk - 1 can (400ml)
- Sticky rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the sticky rice under cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Drain the soaked rice and transfer it to a steamer basket lined with pandan leaves.
- Steam the rice over high heat for 20-25 minutes, or until it becomes soft and sticky.
- While the rice is steaming, prepare the coconut sauce. In a saucepan, combine the coconut milk, sugar, salt, and water. Heat over medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
- Remove the steamed rice from the steamer and transfer it to a mixing bowl. Pour the coconut sauce over the rice and mix well to coat the rice evenly.
- Let the rice mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- To serve, place a portion of the sticky rice on a plate and top with sliced bananas. Sprinkle with sesame seeds for garnish.
