Eight Treasures Rice is a traditional Chinese dish that combines glutinous rice with a variety of ingredients, symbolizing wealth and prosperity.
Ingredients - Serves 6
- Water - 3 cups
- Sugar - 1 cup
- Sesame seeds - 1 tablespoon
- Peanuts - 1/4 cup
- Candied winter melon - 1/4 cup
- Dried longan - 1/4 cup
- Lotus seeds - 1/4 cup
- Red dates - 8, pitted
- Glutinous rice - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- Soak the glutinous rice in water for 4 hours, then drain.

- While the rice is cooking, prepare the 'eight treasures' by soaking the red dates, lotus seeds, dried longan, candied winter melon, peanuts, and sesame seeds in water for 30 minutes, then drain.

- Spread the cooked rice in a large bowl or dish and arrange the 'eight treasures' on top.
- Pour the sugar syrup over the rice and 'eight treasures'.
- Steam the dish over high heat for 30 minutes, or until the rice is sticky and the 'eight treasures' are soft.
- Let the dish cool for a few minutes before serving.
