Meen Kuzhambu
Meen Kuzhambu is a traditional South Indian fish curry made with tamarind, spices and fish. It is a tangy and delicious curry that goes well with rice.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Salt - To taste
- Oil - 3 tablespoons
- Tomato - 1, finely chopped
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Garlic - 6 cloves
- Curry leaves - A handful
- Mustard seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Fenugreek seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 2 teaspoons
- Red chili powder - 2 teaspoons
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Tamarind - 1 lemon sized ball
- Fish - 500 grams
Let's Get Started
- Soak the tamarind in warm water for 15 minutes and extract the juice.
- Marinate the fish with a pinch of turmeric and salt and set aside for 10 minutes.
- Heat oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. Once they splutter, add the fenugreek seeds and curry leaves.
- Add the chopped onions and garlic and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they become soft.
- Add the turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder and salt. Mix well.
- Add the tamarind extract and bring it to a boil.
- Add the marinated fish and cook on low heat for 10-15 minutes or until the fish is cooked thoroughly.
- Serve the Meen Kuzhambu hot with rice.
