Matar Paneer
Matar Paneer is a popular Indian dish made from peas and paneer in a tomato based sauce, spiced with garam masala.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Coriander leaves - for garnish
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - to taste
- Garam masala - 1 teaspoon
- Red chilli powder - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Green chillies - 2, slit
- Ginger-garlic paste - 1 tablespoon
- Onions - 2 medium, finely chopped
- Tomatoes - 2 large, pureed
- Peas - 1 cup, frozen or fresh
- Paneer - 200 grams, cubed
Let's Get Started
- Heat oil in a pan and add cumin seeds. Let them sizzle.
- Add chopped onions and sauté till they turn translucent.
- Add the ginger-garlic paste and green chillies. Sauté till the raw smell goes away.
- Add the pureed tomatoes and cook till oil separates from the sides.
- Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, and salt. Mix well.
- Add the peas and some water. Cover the pan and cook till peas are done.
- Add paneer cubes and garam masala. Mix gently and cook for a couple of minutes.
- Garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot with roti or rice.
