Masoor Dal

Ingredients - Serves 4
- Garam masala - 1/2 teaspoon
- Coriander powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Red chili powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Tomato - 1, finely chopped
- Onion - 1, finely chopped
- Garlic - 2 cloves, minced
- Cumin seeds - 1 teaspoon
- Oil - 2 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Turmeric - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 3 cups
- Red lentils - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Rinse the lentils until the water runs clear. Add them to a pot with the water, turmeric, and salt. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer until the lentils are soft, about 20 minutes.
- While the lentils are cooking, heat the oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the cumin seeds and cook until they start to pop.
- Add the garlic and onion to the pan and cook until the onion is soft and golden.
- Add the tomato, red chili powder, coriander powder, and garam masala to the pan. Cook until the tomato is soft and the spices are well blended.
- Add the cooked lentils to the pan and stir well to combine. Cook for another 5-10 minutes to let the flavors meld together.
- Serve the Masoor Dal with rice or naan bread for a complete meal.
