Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, add the lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes, or until the lentils are tender.
  3. In a separate pan, heat the ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and cook until golden brown.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and cook for another minute.
  5. Add the chopped tomato and cook until it becomes soft and mushy.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Stir well to combine.
  7. Transfer the cooked lentils to the pan and mix everything together. Simmer for another 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
  8. Garnish with fresh cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice before serving.
  9. Serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
