Paratha is a flaky, soft, and crispy Indian flatbread made with whole wheat flour. It's a staple breakfast dish in North India and is typically served with yogurt, pickle, or curry.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Ghee or oil - 4 tablespoons
- Salt - 1 teaspoon
- Water - Approximately 1 cup
- Whole wheat flour - 2 cups
Let's Get Started
- In a large bowl, combine the flour and salt.
- Gradually add water, kneading the dough until it is soft and pliable.
- Cover the dough and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Divide the dough into equal-sized balls.
- Roll out each ball into a circle, spread a teaspoon of ghee or oil over it, fold it into a semi-circle, spread another teaspoon of ghee or oil, and then fold it again into a triangle.
- Roll out the triangle into a larger triangle, maintaining the shape.
- Heat a pan over medium heat, place the paratha on it, and cook until it starts to puff up and has golden brown spots.
- Flip the paratha and cook the other side, spreading a bit more ghee or oil if needed.
- Serve hot with yogurt, pickle, or curry.
