Ingredients - Serves 4

Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the red lentils under cold water until the water runs clear.
  2. In a large pot, add the rinsed lentils and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until the lentils are cooked and tender.
  3. In a separate pan, heat ghee or oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onions and sauté until golden brown.
  4. Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the pan and cook for another minute.
  5. Add the chopped tomatoes and cook until they soften.
  6. Add the turmeric powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the pan. Stir well to combine the spices with the onion-tomato mixture.
  7. Transfer the cooked lentils to the pan with the spice mixture. Mix well and simmer for 5-10 minutes to allow the flavors to blend together.
  8. Add garam masala and stir well.
  9. Garnish with chopped cilantro and drizzle with lemon juice.
  10. Serve hot with steamed rice or naan bread.
