- Salt - 1 teaspoon or to taste
- Ghee or oil - 2 tablespoons
- Cumin seeds (jeera) - 2 teaspoons
- Water - 2 cups
- Basmati rice - 1 cup
Let's Get Started
- Wash the basmati rice under running cold water until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for 30 minutes, then drain.
- Heat the ghee or oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add the cumin seeds and let them crackle for a few seconds.
- Add the drained rice to the pan and sauté for a minute, making sure all the rice grains are coated with ghee or oil.
- Add water and salt to the pan and stir well.
- Cover the pan with a lid and let the rice cook on low heat until all the water is absorbed and the rice is cooked through, about 15-20 minutes.
- Fluff the rice gently with a fork before serving.
