Let's Get Started

  1. Rinse the sweet rice several times until the water runs clear. Soak the rice in water for at least 2 hours.
  2. Drain the rice and steam it for about 40 minutes.
  3. Let the rice cool down and then mix it with the nuruk and yeast in a large jar.
  4. Add water to the jar and mix well. Cover the jar with a cloth and let it ferment in a cool, dark place for about a week.
  5. After a week, strain the mixture through a cloth. Add sugar to taste.
  6. The makgeolli is now ready to serve. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
