Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice
A traditional Chinese dish, Lotus Leaf Wrapped Rice is a flavorful and aromatic dish where glutinous rice is filled with a variety of ingredients and wrapped in a lotus leaf.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- White pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Sugar - 1 teaspoon
- Sesame oil - 1 tablespoon
- Oyster sauce - 1 tablespoon
- Soy sauce - 2 tablespoons
- Dried mushrooms - 6, soaked and sliced
- Dried shrimp - 1/4 cup
- Chinese sausage - 2, sliced
- Glutinous rice - 2 cups
- Dried lotus leaves - 4
Let's Get Started
- Soak the lotus leaves and glutinous rice in water overnight.
- In a pan, stir-fry the Chinese sausage, dried shrimp, and mushrooms until fragrant.
- Add the soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, sugar, salt, and white pepper to the pan and mix well.
- Drain the glutinous rice and add it to the pan, stirring until well mixed.
- Place a portion of the rice mixture in the center of each lotus leaf. Fold the leaf to completely enclose the rice.
- Steam the wrapped rice over high heat for 1 hour, or until the rice is cooked through.
- Allow the wrapped rice to cool slightly before unwrapping and serving.
