Kwek Kwek
Kwek Kwek is a popular Filipino street food made of deep-fried quail eggs coated in orange batter.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Soy sauce - For dipping sauce
- Vinegar - For dipping sauce
- Cooking oil - For deep frying
- Annatto powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Ground black pepper - 1/4 teaspoon
- Salt - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 1 cup
- Cornstarch - 1/2 cup
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Quail eggs - 20
Let's Get Started
- Boil the quail eggs for about 5 minutes, then peel off the shells.
- In a bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cornstarch, water, salt, black pepper, and annatto powder. Mix well until smooth.
- Heat the cooking oil in a deep pan or pot over medium heat.
- Dip each quail egg into the batter, making sure it is fully coated.
- Carefully drop the coated quail eggs into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Remove the fried quail eggs from the oil and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve hot with vinegar and soy sauce as dipping sauce.
