Kushikatsu
Kushikatsu is a popular Japanese dish consisting of skewered and deep-fried meat, seafood, and vegetables.
Ingredients - Serves 4
- Tonkatsu sauce - For serving
- Salt - To taste
- Vegetable oil - For frying
- Panko breadcrumbs - 2 cups
- Egg - 1, beaten
- All-purpose flour - 1 cup
- Assorted vegetables - 1 cup, such as bell peppers, onions, and zucchini, cut into bite-sized pieces
- Shrimp - 1/2 pound, peeled and deveined
- Boneless chicken thighs - 1 pound, cut into bite-sized pieces
Let's Get Started
- Preheat the vegetable oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Thread the chicken, shrimp, and vegetables onto skewers, alternating between ingredients.
- Season the skewers with salt.
- Dip each skewer into the flour, then into the beaten egg, and finally coat with panko breadcrumbs.
- Carefully place the skewers into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes.
- Remove the skewers from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Serve the kushikatsu hot with tonkatsu sauce for dipping.
